I have never had a massage. Do they really help? How can I relax?

Hi Cynthia, I am a runner and every time I get my legs worked on, I feel like I have a new pair of legs. Our bodies are made up of hundreds of muscles that work from the day we are born. Stress, posture, exercise and injuries all affect our muscles and oftentimes, our muscles become very tight and that nagging neck pain may not go away, or your quads feel like they are on fire. Massage therapists talk to you about your history to get an idea of why you may have discomfort or pain and then work on the muscles to bring a fresh supply of nutrients and oxygen to the muscle tissue. After the massage, clients report that they have decreased pain and feel so much better. In addition, people feel extremely relaxed and tell me that the worst part about the massage is that it ends. It's hard to get off the warm, comfortable massage table- it's a place to completely de-stress and get away from it all. I hope this answer helps! Susi

I just had a massage yesterday to help me with a quad muscle that I thought at one point had a stress fracture. After an x-ray and a MRI confirmed that this was not the case, the Dr. (who is a sports Medicine physician) recommended massage. Anyhow, the massage therapist was rubbing my leg and stopped dead on the spot that has been nagging me for 3 weeks straight! She said I had a HUGE knot. I feel so much better today. So to answer your question if it works or not........absolutely! Go for it! ;D
